Portable Monitor recommendations?

Comment by rxxxxxxxrxxxxxx

I bought the Arzopa S1 portable monitor last 11.11. Got it for around P4,000.

I’ll just copy-paste my review from Lazada. But I’ll update, and explain more details here since I couldn’t share my full review on Lazada because of it’s text restrictions:

"Here’s my 3+ month long review of this portable monitor.

First off, this is one of the most secure package I’ve received. The unboxing experience gave the item a more “luxurious” feel to it. Out of the box, the monitor had no glaring issues. The panel had no problems.

The monitor came with a few cables. HDMI to HDMI, Mini HDMI to HDMI, and USB-C to USB-A. These are short (less than a meter) cables. Just right for a portable monitor. The only thing missing here is a USB Charger/power brick. You needed a USB Charger to power up the monitor since this doesn’t have a built-in battery. It needs to be plugged to a power source. You could use your PC/Laptop/Game console USB ports to power up the monitor. But based on experience the monitor wouldn’t be as bright compared to when it is plugged to it’s own power source.

IIRC Arzopa has 2 variants of 15.6inch portable monitors. The one I bought, the S1, has a Magnetic Folio Stand/Cover. The other Arzopa 15.6in portable monitor has an included Monitor/Tablet stand instead. I doubt there’s any difference between the two 15.6in monitors though. If you’d travel more often with this portable monitor then I’d suggest to get the Magnetic Folio Cover. The Folio would at least help protect the monitor’s screen whenever you squeeze it inside your bag. Nevertheless I still bought a Padded 15in Laptop Sleeve for it because I don’t trust the Magnetic Folio is enough to protect the monitor inside my bag.

The monitor has rubber feet on both ends to help stabilize the monitor. I just wished they added another set of rubber feet on the right side of the monitor. To help stabilize it whenever you decide to use the monitor vertically. This is perfect to use vertically since there are no ports nor buttons on the right side of the monitor. You could also use the Magnetic Folio to set up the monitor vertically. But there’s a risk for it to topple down, so I’d suggest to get a portable monitor/tablet stand if you will use this monitor vertically.

The screen is pretty good for its price. FullHD, low reflective screen, the colors are good enough for daily use. The monitor can get very bright, you could use it outdoors even when the sun is out. Colors probably not the best but it’s way better than the screen of my 8+ year old Asus laptop. I’m using this monitor for quick Photoshop/Lightroom edits whenever I’m outside.

As a casual gamer, I couldn’t share any insightful reviews about this. Personally as long as it’s not blurred, has good brightness, no washed out colors, and no visual lags or screen tearing then I’m good with it. The main reason why I purchased this monitor is it’s portability. A monitor that I can just put inside my bag whenever I travel with my PS4/mffPC, something I could use for LAN parties, or overnight weekend gaming at my friends/family’s house. That reason is enough to justify my purchase. But if you needed a gaming portable monitor, Arzopa also offers one. But it costs 2x more than the S1.

The built-in speakers are nothing to gloat about. Literally no bass, it sounded so thin. And don’t even expect a loud maximum volume on this one. I got it at 100% Volume, and I could barely hear it inside my room. Just get either a headphone/earphone, or a BT speaker w/line in. The monitor itself has a 3.5mm headphone jack, so you could plug in one anytime you needed it.

And lastly, the monitor’s construction. The monitor is thin, coupled with thin bezels. It’s made out of metal. Not the best quality of metal alloy but I’d always take cheap metal than cheap plastic. I’ve been bringing along this monitor with me on my daily commute to work (QC - Makati), and whenever I travel outside of MM. And after 3+ months of “rigorous” Metro Manila commute, the monitor has held up quite well. Still as good as the day I first opened it.

My only complaint in this monitor are the “flimsy” buttons. The ports are built quite well but the buttons are so-so. Especially the “scroll wheel”. That’s the only thing I’m more concerned about. It looks cheap, and it feels cheap. There’s a good chance it wouldn’t last long. Just be extra careful whenever you had to use it to control the monitor’s volume, brightness, and other options. Wish they opt to use either a “touch sensitive” buttons, or the good old clicky buttons.

Warranty. According to Arzopa it has a 12-month warranty. But I doubt we’d get anything out of it since Arzopa doesn’t have any local support. The only thing we could do is to contact them through e-mail, and hope that they’ll answer back, and provide help whenever their customers would encounter problems on their products in the future.

Overall this Arzopa S1 has been one of the best things I ever bought. It actually completed my work & gaming travel set. If you needed a monitor outside of your desk/workspace-at-home then yes, this portable monitor is a handy gadget to have. But if you would just use this a 2nd monitor for your desktop, then I suggest that you just buy another desk monitor. You’d get a better value out of a 2nd monitor for the same price."
